Implementing OpenAthens for Single Sign-On Authentication – Leading Edge Libraries

This presentation was shared at the Leading Edge Libraries Conference, hosted by the Florida-Caribbean Chapter of the Special Libraries Association, on September 22, 2017.

Summary: OpenAthens is a relatively new authentication service in the U.S. market, offering SAML-based authentication to a wide array of online subscription-based content. More than just a proxy service, OpenAthens provides secure authentication methods, user and resource management, and robust statistical tools. Hear about Lancaster Theological Seminary’s adventure as an early adopter of OpenAthens and what we’ve learned in the process.

Learning Outcomes: Participants will be able to differentiate between proxy services and SAML authentication, and assess the potential cost/benefit of implementing OpenAthens in a library.
